Pollarding Services

Pollarding is a traditional pruning technique where the upper branches of a tree are cut back to the same points each cycle, creating a permanent framework that holds the tree at a manageable size.

Pollarding Services

It's especially common across London on planes, limes, willows and poplars, where mature trees would otherwise dominate the streetscape and gardens around them. Once a tree has been pollarded, it should be maintained on a regular cycle — usually every two to five years depending on the species — to keep the framework healthy and prevent heavy regrowth from becoming dangerous.

We can establish a new pollard on a suitable young tree, or maintain and re-pollard an existing one. We'll never simply top a tree that hasn't been pollarded before — that's not pollarding, it's damage. Honest advice is part of the service.
